Pus-Filled Wounds? Here’s How to Handle Them

Pus is a thick fluid made up of dead tissue, cells, and bacteria. Your body produces it as a defence mechanism when fighting bacterial infections.

Depending on the type and location of the infection, pus may appear white, yellow, green, or even brown. Sometimes it carries a foul odor, although in some cases it may be odorless.

Pus can also result from common skin conditions, such as acne, or when bacteria enter the skin through an open wound, like a cut or surgical incision.

Signs of an Infected Wound

GWS Wellness – Symptoms of An Infected Wound Appear Within 2–3 Days After The Injury.

To prevent infection, proper wound care is essential. The goal of wound management is twofold: first, to address the source of infection and reduce further drainage; second, to maintain moisture balance and protect the surrounding skin during the healing process.

Symptoms of an infected wound often appear within 2–3 days after the injury. Warning signs include:

  • Redness or dark streaks spreading around the wound
  • Pain and warmth when the wound is touched
  • Swelling near the wound site
  • Discharge of blood or pus from the wound

How to Care for a Pus-Filled Wound

To help clean the wound and reduce the risk of infection, you can use wund+™ Wound Spray, which contains hypochlorous acid.

This spray is safe for the skin, effective at killing bacteria, and causes minimal stinging when applied.

Once the wound enters the healing phase, support recovery with wund+™ Regeneration Cream to keep the wound moist and promote skin regeneration.

This cream can also be applied around the wound to help relieve itching, a common issue as wounds begin to dry and close.

With proper care from the very beginning, pus-filled wounds can heal more quickly while minimizing the risk of infection.
